Traveling from One Place to Another

We started our journey in Malaysia, a tropical nation just above the equator. The richness of Malaysia’s multi-cultural brew shaped and nurtured us. Migrating to America, a nation with its own heritage of cultures, and who unabashedly proclaims, “e pluribus unum”, was a seamless transition.

Now, as we enter our golden years, our journey takes on a different dimension. We are grateful for our blessings, and we find ourselves with a more contemplative outlook. But there’s also a deeper yearning, stirred not by logic, but by the heart.

May our Journeys be like the budding cherry blossoms,
Bringing Joy & Light to those who cross our Paths

To some, it is a question of the legacy that we leave behind. To others, it is the uncovering of the meaning and purpose of our lives. And fellow Christians will consider this as their guiding motivation, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

A journey has three elements, a starting point, an ending point and the journey between these two points.

The starting point is often overlooked. Learning about oneself doesn’t come about naturally. We can be our own harshest critics. The guiding principle is ‘Be kind to yourself’.

Defining the end point is the essence of life. A better verb than defining is ‘painting’. Some create and pursue bucket lists. Others dust off their chest that housed their dreams, re-discover old and new passions. Others continue to employ their talents and gifts for the betterment of their surrounding world.

As for the journey itself, there’s a saying, ‘The Journey is the Destination’. The  experiences, the relationships, the revelations, the summits and valleys, all these moments and more, constitute the Journey. A Journey shared is the perfect antidote to loneliness.

There’s as many permutations of these three elements imaginable as fellow humans. Our blog postings will span all three dimensions. There’s much wisdom in T.S. Eliot’s

“We shall not cease from exploration, And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started, And know the place for the first time.”
