Post Valentine’s Day

Feb 15, 2025

It has been a long while since my last post. I was reminded about [the existence of] my blog by an email offering to provide advertising services to promote my blog! A serendipitous prompt this morning.

Joon suggested buying beef from Costco and having a home cooked meal for Valentine’s Day dinner. We bought beef from Costco in the late morning. It cost us $53.08. For 1.77 lbs of prime tenderloin Wagyu beef. Or 28.32 oz. The three pieces were similar in size. Each piece/cut would then have weighed an average 9.44 oz and cost us $17.69. Besides being one of the most flavorful steak meals we had for some years, we had that inner satisfaction of money well spent. Celebrating Valentine’s Day dinner without the heartache of a depleted wallet!

Now, why did I write the preceding paragraph that way? I was moved to practice what I am in the midst of reading. A book titled, “Exercises in Style” by Raymond Queneau. This book essentially depicts 99 ways of narrating a tale in different styles. The paragraph I wrote was the “Precision” style, with lots of hard facts.

This book was targeted at writers, so that they can write about a scene/tale in many ways!

Another author was moved to create 99 comic strips for the same underlying tale. I enjoyed this a whole lot, and flag-posted my favorites. Favorites in the sense that I am hoping that my perceptual senses will be broadened so that I do not rush to judgment when I come across a situation visually!

I would NOT recommend purchasing “Exercises in Style” at all. There were not a few pages that I felt were too contrived or too technical for an avid reader like myself. “99 ways to tell a story” is one that is my personal bookcase.

So, how can these two books impact my life going forward? Can I picture 99 ways to get out of bed, wash up and dress for the day? Will some ways better impact how my day unfolds? Hmm…..

And since it is about post Valentine’s Day, how about challenging myself to express my love to Joon in 99 ways? This idea brings a smile. How sweet life can be.
